Youth council meeting minutes Thursday 10th January 2013

Introduction

Special guest – Nick Horslen (Global Poverty Ambassador)
Welcome/Introduction:
Introduced ourselves and said what college or school we go to and our favourite colour.
Art exhibition update / planning:
Starting off by talking about the art exhibition, no uni students will be involved as the age we are working on is under 19.
Oliver will be digitalising the poster – adding new logo – printing off flyers
Potential Local charities – street dreams, scanapeel, Wycombe youth bank, shelter
Charity to be decided by next meeting.
Progress check on the posters by next meeting
Radio advert to be confirmed at next meeting
Lia to be calling schools arranging assemblies for key stage 3’s.
Everyone to reply to emails.
Bucks Youth Cabinet, Wycombe Youth Bank, UK Youth Parliament update:
Ethel was speaking about her role in the youth parliament and how we can get hold of her through social networking and emails.
Planning for new year:
· All planning for New Year will be discussed in next meeting.
· James then spoke about the Chiltern young people’s awards and raised the point as to how we could get people involved.
· Marvin added it’s to show recognition. Miles added the sports men from the areas.
Recruitment – how to attract new members.
Recruitment of new members. Oliver suggesting that we make the youth council known in schools and towards students so that the students can get involved. Talking to teachers and seeing if we can have messages in assemblies. Liam suggests letters to schools, recruiting.
AOB – Youth Council Notice Board
· AOB Youth Council notice board, we have agreed that the design on the boards will be changed to be more eye catching as they are not noticeable. Boards can then include new things the Youth Council are interested in bringing forward and organising. This can also raise awareness for us and we can possibly start recruiting.
Guest Speaker:
· Our guest speaker had a video about poverty called 1.4 billion reasons as there are 1.4 billion people suffering from extreme poverty.
· Guest speaker spoke about statistics on wealth and poverty in Uganda.
